mangacideThere's something to be said for changing things about your life that have remained in one state for a long period of time. Sometimes something is very familiar to you, but there comes a time when you realize that you've held onto it for too long, and that you outgrew it years ago. In short...
I changed my email today.
It doesn't seem like that big of a thing. But it feels a lot like stepping into a new identity. And there's a lot of work involved too. Changing all your contacts on various websites and accounts. And getting contacts and emails transfered from the old address. And then there's the retraining involved. Teaching myself to go to the new location and not repeat the habit of logging into the old email every day. Surprising how much there is to just changing an email.
Still it feels good to do it. The new email, while still expressing my interests, feels more permanent than the old one. And more mature as well. I feel like in a way it's a small step towards my goals. Even though it may seem insignificant.
Too bad the rest of my life isn't going as smoothly...
On...Wed. I think, we got the news that Sker's uncle would be arriving the very next day to visit for the weekend. Hurray for unexpected guests? Not really.
He takes over the house while he's here. We buy what he wants to buy, eat the foods he likes to eat, and generally just cater to whatever he wants. It's quite annoying. Sker didn't have the car for the rest of the week because Uncle R and Rachel had to use it every day. None of this is really Uncle Rs fault though. He's actually a pretty likeable person. It's Rachel that runs us all ragged bending over backward for him.
We were however able to get a Christmas Tree thanks to him though, so the visit wasn't all bad. And I got to see a lot of Linda, whom I really enjoy.
Downsides include the smell of tobacco permeating the car and coming in through the window at night (he smokes).
The worst thing by far though was when last night, I went out to the kitchen only to find that Rachel and Uncle R had eaten dinner without us, and that the leftovers had been placed in the freezer so he could take them with him today when he left. Apparently, Rachel didn't think it was necessarry to inform us that WE NEEDED TO MAKE OUR OWN DINNER THAT NIGHT. And assumed we were asleep so didn't bother knocking to see if we really were. It would have been worse but she gave us some money after the fact so we could get burgers. But it still grates on my nerves to no end that we weren't given warning that we were on our own for dinner, since the night before she's said she was going to make dinner for the next day, we naturally assumed she meant for EVERYONE.
And then this morning she and Uncle R had breakfast. And I waited a while and then made myself a PB&J ._.||
I swear if I didn't cook 3 days out of the week we'd go hungery most days. I really want a better life than this.
I can't wait till tomorrow. We finally get to finish our Xmas shopping and maybe then things will feel more like Christmas. So far this month has been anything but festive. We don't even have the tree decorated yet and I kind of think I'm the only one that cares about it. I know my husband doesn't want to decorate and you wouldn't believe how much that kills my own sense of holiday cheer.
On top of all this, I really miss Emerald Blues. And I still feel like a failure for letting it die. Bleh, I feel like such a horrible person for complaining about all this >,<
